PatternPlot turns a paper sewing pattern into an editable, true-scale vector on your iPad, then grades it into a full size run with deterministic geometry you can audit. This page answers the most common questions and tells you how to reach a human.

Getting started

No account, no sign-in. Your work stays on your iPad; nothing is uploaded for storage.
Requirements: iPad running iPadOS 17 or later. Apple Pencil improves precision but is not required — every action works with finger and numeric entry.
Trace: import a photo of your paper pattern (or, on a physical iPad, scan with the document camera), tap the four corners of a known rectangle and enter its real size to calibrate to true scale, then tap along the edge to trace.
Import: or bring in your own vector artwork as SVG. If the file states a real-world size it imports at true scale; if it doesn't, you're asked to measure one width rather than the app guessing.
Edit: add, move or delete points, set seam allowance (per edge if you want), notches, and grainline.
Grade: mark a reference point and an axis, type how much each size grows, and export a PDF per size.
Export: tiled A4/Letter or A0 PDF with registration marks and a 50 mm calibration square — free, no subscription required.

Frequently asked questions

What is free, and what needs a subscription?

Tracing, vector editing, seam allowance, notches, grainline, and tiled/A0 PDF export are free forever — no purchase required. So is grading your own piece across a size run you define: the nested run and the quality report are shown on screen, and the base size exports free. Pro Grading buys the files for the rest of the run — a tiled PDF for every size, a nest of the whole run on one sheet, and every piece of the garment in each file.

How much is Pro Grading, and is there a trial?

Pro Grading is an auto-renewable subscription at US$79.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. Prices in other regions are shown in the App at purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple ID; it renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends.

How do I restore a purchase or manage/cancel my subscription?

Restore: open the Pro paywall (Grade demo → Unlock Pro) and tap Restore Purchases.

Manage or cancel: on your iPad open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, choose PatternPlot, and manage or cancel there. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

My printed pattern isn't true scale.

Print the exported PDF at 100% / Actual Size (not "Fit to page"), then measure the 50 mm calibration square on the printout with a ruler. If it isn't exactly 50 mm, your printer is scaling — turn off any auto-fit or margin scaling and reprint. Always verify the calibration square before cutting fabric.

How is grading checked? Does AI change my measurements?

All geometry — every coordinate, seam allowance, notch, and graded measurement — is computed deterministically on your device. This version has no AI feature: no AI sets, suggests or alters your measurements, and the app sends no pattern data anywhere to grade it. The built-in grade tables are synthetic textbook stand-ins, clearly labelled as such in the app, and are not a validated size library. PatternPlot flags when a size drifts beyond a safe grade range so you can re-check proportions before cutting.

Where are my files? How do I back them up?

Your current project autosaves on-device and is restored when you reopen the app. You can also Save or Open a .patternplot file from the Export screen (via the Files app), which is how you back up or move projects between devices.

What data leaves my device?

None of your pattern data. This version has no AI feature, and grading, geometry and exports all happen on your device, so nothing is sent for them. If you use Help → Send feedback, the email goes only when you send it yourself. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
